Mixed Media Canvas Art – “Dance”

27 Dec

Hi hi!

Hope you had a great festive break! : )

This is what I had created last night – a 12 by 12 Canvas Art. I love working on canvases and experimenting with the different mediums I have. I also realized I have a love for silhouettes. Haha!  Actually, the fact is I am not skilled in drawing facial features. Hence, simple silhouette is my best bet. : )

Below some quick instructions:

First, paint the canvas with your desired colour.

Canvas Art - Step 1

Next, create the background using stencils, background stamps, bubble wrap etc.
For this project, the green mini dots were actually created with a balance piece of Ikea drawer mat. I painted it with Martha Stewart Pearl Acrylic and then press it down onto the canvas.

The circles are created by spraying colour mists over the template (The Crafter’s Workshop TCW219 Punchinella).

The completed background

Canvas Art - Step 3

Trace and cut a female silhouette out of a black card stock. I did not care much for the bottom half as it will be covered later on.

Canvas Art - Step 4

Cut out her top from a patterned paper and adhere to the silhouette. Adhere the silhouette onto the canvas.

Apply texture paste to create the hair. I let it dry completely and then brush with Ranger Perfect Medium followed by Palette Stamp & Stick Accent Powder – Aztec Gold. I then rubbed a cotton bud with Faber Castell Gelato and go over the raised lines of the texture paste.

I used wide ribbons which have wires at both edges so they are easier to create a ruffled look for the skirt. Embellish the canvas with ribbons, dollies, die cuts etc until you are happy with the outcome.

      Hi Chana

Thanks for your kind compliments! : )

Every time I had this mental block for ideas or concern about the outcome of a yet completed project.. I put it aside sometimes for weeks haha.. when the mind is open, creative juices naturally flows and that’s when I will be able to get back to it and complete it spontaneously.

Happy working on your canvas project. It will turn out well : )
